MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Ryan Sharkey, a former Division I Cross Country and Track & Field athlete at Miami University, knows firsthand the challenges that come with competing at the collegiate level. Balancing intense training, academics, nutrition, recovery and a social life can be overwhelming, and through his own experience, he saw how many student-athletes struggle to navigate this transition effectively.

After earning his master’s degree in sports psychology from Miami University, Ryan recognized the need for a practical, real-world resource to help athletes get the most out of their college experience—both in and out of competition. This led him to create the Student-Athlete Survival Guide, a comprehensive tool designed to provide the guidance he wished he had during his own journey.

Through this guide, Ryan shares firsthand insights, strategies and advice that aren’t always taught by coaches or in the classroom, helping student-athletes develop the skills and mindset needed to thrive in their sport, academics and beyond.

OUR MISSION

Ryan created the Student-Athlete Survival Guide to bridge the gap between talent and success by providing student-athletes with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in every aspect of college life. Through his own experience as a Division I Cross Country and Track & Field athlete, he saw how many athletes struggle with the transition to college—juggling intense training, academics, nutrition and social pressures—often without the guidance to manage it all effectively. Recognizing that these challenges can impact both performance and overall well-being, he developed this course to offer practical, real-world advice that is rarely covered by coaches or in the classroom. His goal is to help student-athletes maximize their potential, make informed decisions, and build the habits necessary for success in sports, academics and life after college.

At the end of your college experience, you could look back and think of all the things you could have done differently, the small changes you could have made that would have had huge benefits - if only you had known what you do now.

Don't look back with regrets, learn the common pitfalls and how to avoid them. Learn how to thrive in an environment where most are just trying to get by and seize this opportunity for the college experience of a lifetime.
